The clinker plant located in an area known to be disadvantaged by the lack of sufficient water and food has been described as a game changer to the West Pokot community.
“This factory will change the perception of Pokot. The Pokot people are hardworking. Pokot people need the opportunity,” Devki Group Chairman, Narendra Raval said during the plant’s launch.
Raval, famously known as Guru expressed Devki’s commitment to supporting the community
With plans to open more plants in Kitui, Nakuru and Eldoret, Devki aims at creating employment in Kenya and reducing imports.
“Kenya has a demand for clinker of 5 million tonnes per annum while our capacity as devki group is 6 million tonnes in Kenya today. By the end of 2027, the Kitui plant will be ready and our capacity will go to 12 million tonnes,” he said.
The Pokot plant is expected to export clinker to Uganda, Rwanda, and Sudan for approximately 200 million dollars every year.
“The role of the Devki group in this journey is commendable. Two of their investments, National Cement and now Cemtech produce 6 million tones of clinker annually, which is equivalent to our national demand. The opening of this plant takes our clinker production beyond this demand to 11 million tonnes, an excess of 5 million tonnes,” Ruto stated.
